Local arts and crafts
This is an exciting new venture for the village of Covas and is run by Robin and Hjordis. Visit this site for information about arts and crafts in the local area plus much more. Adjacent to the gallery Robin has has created a woodcraft studio. You can get more information and tour Robin’s site here Over the years many foreign artists have found inspiration in Portugal. One such artist is Englishman Paul Waplington who’s speciality is in capturing, on canvas, ways of life which are unique and under threat from modernity. Paul lives in the local area near Barcelos and many of his works can be seen at Gallery Covas. Our friends Eunice and Mark run various residential courses, retreats, workshops and activities in their 300 year old premises near Valença.Food and Drink

A Little Further Afield
Portugal’s only national park the Parque Nacional da Peneda Gerês is less than one hour away. This link is to the Wikipedia entry for this area of outstanding natural beauty - it’s well worth a visit.Why not visit the beautiful and famous pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela in neighbouring Galicia? This site has a huge amount of information - just choose the language you want.
This famous tourism and religious centre is less than an hour away and driving south to the great city of Porto home of Port Wine and FC Porto will take about 1 hour and twenty minutes.
